Week in the Life // Thursday Words & Photos
Here we are on Thursday already. I am already noticing I’m taking fewer pictures and possibly running out of steam, at least compared to Monday. I’m not surprised at all and I’m totally ok with it.
Thursday I stayed in bed till 7:45 while the kids played quietly together. This is happening more often...but it’s not the norm. Ava woke up crying last night because there was dirt on Ribby and she couldn’t get it off. We have back-ups for Ribby because she needs him to sleep and she decided she wanted to have a backup while the original was being washed. First thing this morning, Ava wanted to arrange her Harry Potter Great Hall set for show and tell during class this morning....even though that won’t happen for hours. I just didn’t want to get up this morning and that feeling is happening more and more often. I’m thankful I don’t really have a choice. I’m really relying on my little ones for the smiles and joy right now. I’m constantly reminded of how often the teach me, instead of me teaching them.
Ben’s been setting up his bed for something he calls “anniversary Sesame Street.” He takes all of his Sesame Street stuffed animals (most of which are cookie monster) and lays them out on his bed. He does this almost every morning. This year was the 50th anniversary of the first episode of the show and he was so excited. We spend a lot of time at the Center for Puppetry Arts where they have a lot of the original puppets and an amazing permanent Jim Henson collection. We also read a Jim Henson biography every night. We’re big fans. His cookie collection is part hand me downs from Ava, part gifts from friends and family who know his obsession with cookie. While Ava was in class, Ben and I did his letters. He loves to write the alphabet on the white board and he’s doing such a great job. We take a picture of the board every day.
Mom and dad and Terry came over this afternoon afternoon after Ava got done with school. It was finally hot enough outside to play in the sprinklers. Everyone joined in (the kiddos were the only ones in suits). And the sprinkler water is still unbelievably cold, not that they mind. They also brought over stuff for tacos. Tacos are our current favorite, which I love because they are super easy and make great leftovers.
After dinner, mom and dad left. Terry and dad will head back to Indiana on Saturday. Baths and showers. Then stories and bedtime. I want to remember to tell the story of Love. Love is a Sesame Street book all about love. Ben reads it every night. It’s the only book that all four of us are in his room for. I don’t remember exactly how it started, but the closing page is a two-page spread of all the sesame street characters. We started a game where everyone has to name all the characters as fast as they can. Mike times us on his phone. I am the slowest, and I was the last one to memorize the order of the characters and still need to look at the book. Ava takes it very seriously (like everything else). After Love, we do hugs and kisses and the boys finish stories and Ava and I chat and read together. On to Friday, friends!
